ISSUE OF NAUTICAL TICKETS TO STUDENTS OF THE NAUTICAL COLLEGE.

During the proceedings of the Public Accounts Committee on 26th July, 1956, I was asked what was the average annual issue of tickets over a number of years to students of the Nautical College, with particular reference to tickets for qualified skippers of fishing boats.

I have ascertained from the Department of Industry and Commerce that the number of tickets (first mate; 2nd mate; Master Home Trade; Master Foreign Trade; Extra Master) issued in the past four years was

30	in	year	ended	31st	July,	1953
30	„	„	„	„	„	1954
26	„	„	„	„	„	1955
35	„	„	„	„	„	1956

The figure for the year ended 31st July, 1956 included one ticket for a skipper of a fishing boat; no other such ticket was issued in any of the three preceding years.
