EXPENDITURE ON HIRE AND REPAIR OF CYCLES.

The hire of cycles, in fact, represents the weekly payment of allowances to officials for the use for official purposes of their own instead of official cycles. A full-time officer using an official cycle is paid a cleaning allowance at the rate of 1s. 8d. per week out of the salary subheads, whereas an officer who elects to use his own cycle is paid an inclusive allowance at the rate of 3s. 6d. per week out of subhead G.1. The difference in payment is only 1s. 10d. per week. The use of private cycles is being encouraged as it is considered to be more economic. The cycles are pedal cycles.
