1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:


Deputy Sheldon (in the Chair), Deputies A. Barry, Bartley, J. Brennan, Carter, Mrs. Crowley, Desmond and M. P. Murphy.


3. Consideration of Appropriation Accounts, 1952-53.


Consideration of the Appropriation Accounts for the year 1952-53 was resumed. The following Accounts were disposed of:—External Affairs, International Co-operation, Employment and Emergency Schemes, Posts and Telegraphs, Wireless Broadcasting, Defence and Army Pensions.


4. Witnesses Examined.


Mr. S. Nunan (Secretary, Department of External Affairs), Mr. R. Ó hEigeartaigh (Director, Employment and Emergency Schemes), Mr. L. O’Broin (Secretary, Department of Posts and Telegraphs), Lieutenant-General P. MacMahon (Secretary, Department of Defence), Máire Bhreathnach, Mr. J. Mooney, Mr. P. M. Clarke, and Mr. J. E. Twamley (Department of Finance), and the Comptroller and Auditor General were examined.


5. Adjournment.


The Committee adjourned at 12.30 p.m. until Thursday, 22nd July.
