APPENDIX XIV.PAYMENTS FOR SERVICES OF CONSULTANTS TO ASSIST ORGANISATION AND METHODS OFFICERS.An Cleireach, Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí. Qns. 535-538 645-646. In connexion with the sum of £117, noted on page 173 of the Appropriation Accounts, 1951/52, as paid from subhead H.3 of the Vote for Posts and Telegraphs in respect of services of a consultant to assist Organisation and Methods Officers, the Chairman of the Committee referred to the fact that this sum was not included in the total sum of £5,504 given in my minute of 23rd July, 1953. The Chairman asked to have the latter figure checked to ensure that it included all payments to organisation and management consultants. The consultants engaged in the Department of Agriculture assisted in the training of the Organisation and Methods Officers of a number of other Departments, including the Department of Posts and Telegraphs. During 1950/51, the Department of Agriculture paid the organisation and management consultants the full cost of the training up to 31st January, 1951, and the expenditure involved was later refunded to the Department of Agriculture by the other Departments whose Organisation and Methods Officers were trained. The sum due from the Department of Posts and Telegraphs was the £117 mentioned in the preceding paragraph, and this was not repaid by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs until 4th April, 1951. It was, therefore, a purely inter-departmental transaction in respect of a service rendered and originally paid for in 1950/51. The total sum paid by Government Departments to organisation and management consultants in the year 1951/52 was £5,504. Of this, £3,362 was paid by the Office of Public Works and the balance of £2,142 by the Department of Agriculture. The sum paid by the Department of Agriculture included £224 in respect of training Organisation and Methods Officers of other Departments during the months February to July, 1951. (Sínithe) M.
