APPENDIX XVI.

Vote for Aviation and Meteorological Services.

Secretary,

Committee of Public Accounts.

At the proceedings of the Committee on the 10th July, 1952, I undertook to furnish further particulars of the following matters:—

DISPOSAL OF HOSTEL AT FOYNES TO A LOCAL AUTHORITY FOR USE AS A HOSPITAL.

Negotiations for the purchase of the site from the Monteagle Estate Company commenced in 1943. At the outset difficulties arose in connection with numerous rights of way and wayleaves appurtenant to the site. Draft transfers were submitted to the vendor’s solicitors in October, 1945, for approval. Although the Chief State Solicitor’s Office continued to press the solicitors the deeds of transfer of the site were not finally approved until August, 1949. The deeds were engrossed by the Chief State Solicitor’s Office and submitted to the vendor’s solicitors for execution in March, 1950, and the sale was closed in August, 1950. When the general Deed of Transfer was lodged in the Land Registry by the Chief State Solicitor’s Office it was found that certain amendments to the maps accompanying the Deed were necessary. This complication entailed further and prolonged correspondence between the Chief State Solicitor’s Office and the vendor’s solicitors before agreement on the amendments was reached. The amended maps were sent to the vendor’s solicitors in May, 1952, for formal approval. When the maps are returned no further delay is anticipated in completing the registration of the Deed of Transfer relating to the site.
