PROCEEDINGS OF THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE

1. The Committee met at 12.30 p.m.

2. Members Present.

The following members were present:—

The Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Colley, S. Collins, Cowan, Davern, V. de Valera, Gallagher, Hilliard, MacBride, and McEoin.

3. Election of Chairman.

Deputy S. Collins moved:—

“That Deputy V. de Valera be Chairman of the Committee.”

Question put, and agreed to.

Deputy V. de Valera took the Chair accordingly.

4. Report of Debates.

Deputy Cowan moved:—

“That the debates of the Committee be officially reported.”

Question put: the Committee divided For, 5; Against, 6.

For:—Deputies S. Collins, Cowan, V. de Valera, Hilliard and Mac Eoin.

Against:— Minister for Defence, Deputies Brennan, Colley, Davern, Gallagher and Mac Bride.

The question was declared negatived accordingly.

5. Notice of Amendments.

Ordered: That, in respect of the sections and schedules specified, notice of proposed amendments be given not later than the following dates:—

sections 1 to 52 not later than 27th February, 1952.

sections 53 to 116 not later than 5th March, 1952.

sections 117 to 249 not later than 12th March, 1952.

sections 250 to 316 and schedules 1 to 10 not later than 19th March, 1952.

6. Adjournment.

The Committee adjourned at 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, 5th March, 1952.
