THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.

1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:—


Deputy Sheldon (in the Chair), Deputies P. Brady, Carter, J. J. Collins, S. Collins, Mrs. Crowley, D. O’Sullivan and Palmer.


3. Consideration of Appropriation Accounts, 1950-51.


Consideration of the Appropriation Accounts for the year 1950-51 was resumed. The following Accounts were disposed of:—Local Government, Agriculture, Fisheries, Office of the Minister for Social Welfare, Old Age Pensions, Children’s Allowances, Unemployment Insurance and Unemployment Assistance, Widows’ and Orphans’ Pensions, National Health Insurance, Micellaneous Social Welfare Services and Comptroller and Auditor General.


4. Witnesses Examined.


Mr. J. Garvin (Secretary, Department of Local Government), Mr. S. Ó Broin (Secretary, Department of Agriculture), Mr. W. Maguire (Secretary, Department of Social Welfare), Mr. W. J. Kiely (Secretary, Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General), Mr. M. Breathnach and Mr. C. Byrnes (Department of Finance) and the Comptroller and Auditor General were examined.
