THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.

Thursday, 19th April, 1951.

1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.

2. Members Present.

The following members were present:—

Deputy Derrig (in the Chair), Deputies J. J. Collins, Mrs. Crowley, Fiztpatrick, and Sheldon.

3. Consideration of Appropriation Accounts, 1948-49.

Consideration of the Appropriation Accounts for the year 1948-49 was resumed. The following Accounts were disposed of:—Old Age Pensions, Widows’ and Orphans’ Pensions, National Health Insurance, Children’s Allowances, Unemployment Insurance and Unemployment Assistance, Office of the Minister for Social Welfare, Miscellaneous Social Welfare Services and Comptroller and Auditor-General.

4. Witnesses Examined.

Mr. W. Maguire (Secretary, Department of Social Welfare), Mr. Wm. J. Kiely (Secretary, Office of the Comptroller and Auditor-General), Mr. P. O’Kelly and Mr. M. Breathnach (Department of Finance), and the Comptroller and Auditor-General were examined.

The Committee adjourned at 12.35 p.m. sine die.
