THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.

Thursday, 8th November, 1951.

1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:


Deputies J. J. Collins, Mrs. Crowley, M. E. Dockrell, Finan, Gilbride, Hickey, McGrath and D. O’Sullivan.


3. Election of Temporary Chairman.


Deputy Gilbride moved:—


“That Deputy M. E. Dockrell act as Chairman of this meeting of the Committee.”


Question put, and agreed to.


Deputy Dockrell took the Chair accordingly.


4. Consideration of Appropriation Accounts, 1949-50.


Consideration, of the Appropriation Accounts for the year 1949-50 was resumed. The following Accounts were disposed of:—General Register Office, Health, Posts and Telegraphs, Wireless Broadcasting, Old Age Pensions, Widows’ and Orphans’ Pensions, National Health Insurance, Children’s Allowances, Unemployment Insurance and Unemployment Assistance, Office of the Minister for Social Welfare and Miscellaneous Social Welfare Services.


4. Witnesses Examined.


Mr. P. Kennedy (Secretary, Department of Health), Mr. L. Ó Broin (Secretary, Department of Posts and Telegraphs), Mr. W. Maguire (Secretary, Department of Social Welfare), Mr. M. Breathnach, Mr. P. O’Kelly and Mr. S. Twamley (Department of Finance) and the Comptroller and Auditor General were examined.


6. Adjournment.


The Committee adjourned at 12.45 p.m.
