Rúnaí,

Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí.

At the proceedings of the Public Accounts Committee on the 19th April last, during my examination in connection with the Appropriation Account of the Vote for Miscellaneous Social Welfare Services for 1948/49, I undertook to furnish particulars of the number of schools eligible to participate in the School Meals (Gaeltacht) Scheme and the number of schools in which meals were provided during that year. The particulars are as follows:—

The schools in which meals were not provided were Glengarriff National School in County Cork and Inishboffin Island National School in County Donegal.

Some of the schools in the Gaeltacht areas are situated in remote districts resulting in difficulty in securing delivery of perishable food stuffs at suitable times for distribution to the children. In such cases an involuntary curtailment of expenditure occurs.
