AMOUNT PAYABLE FROM AGRICULTURAL PRODUCE SUBSIDIES VOTE UNDER FORMER PRICE FOR MILK.

With reference to the inquiry on the subject at the meeting of the Committee of Public Accounts on the 12th April, I have to state that if the price of milk supplied to creameries had not been increased in April, 1947, the amount payable from the Vote for Agricultural Produce Subsidies in respect of allowances on creamery butter produced during the year 1947/48 would have been £824,000.
