APPENDIX XXVI.
EX-GRATIA PAYMENT TO CONTRACTOR.
As regards the ex-gratia payment of £113 1s. 0d. referred to in the concluding note on page 202 of the Appropriation Account the Contractor’s original tender amounted to £12,523 0s. 0d. The other tenders received were £12,754 14s. 0d., £12,940 0s. 0d., £13,120 0s. 0d., so that even with the addition of £113 1s. 0d., the successful Contractor’s price (£12,636 1s. 0d.) was lower than any of the other tenders received.
When work to the value of approximately £2,000 had been executed, the Contractor drew attention to the fact that there was an error in the priced bill of quantities submitted with his tender. If this error had been discovered in the Department before the tender was accepted, the Contractor’s attention would have been drawn to it. If he had revised his price the increased tender would have been accepted as it would still have been the lowest.
