Secretary,

Public Accounts Committee.

At the proceedings of the Committee on 5th instant I undertook to furnish further particulars regarding the following matters:

ATTENDANCE OF APPRENTICES AT VOCATIONAL EDUCATION COURSES (SUBHEAD G.)

The Apprenticeship Act, 1931 (No. 56 of 1931) Section 3, provides for the setting up of Apprenticeship Districts and Committees. An Apprenticeship Committee may, under Section 26 (1) of the Act, make representations to the Minister for Education with a view to the provision by the Local Vocational Education Committee of courses of technical instruction of a type suitable for apprentices engaged in the trade for which the Committee is established. Where such courses of instruction are provided the Committee may by order require apprentices to attend (Section 26 (2) of the Act).
