KILDARE MILITARY BARRACKS

The reconstruction of the Artillery Barracks at Kildare was planned to take place in four stages. Stage I was completed in November, 1939, and stage 2 in November, 1940. Certain necessary portions of stages 3 and 4 were carried out by November, 1942, the remainder of the work being deferred in the circumstances of the time and pending further consideration of military requirements.

The entire project was estimated in 1937 to cost £321,000, of which £139,612 12s. 1d. has so far been spent. At the request of the Department of Defence provision for the balance of the work was omitted from the Estimates for 1949/50, with the exception of a token provision for married officers’ quarters which now appears as a separate work, the cost of which has not yet been estimated. So far as is known, there is no present intention to proceed with the remaining items of stages 3 and 4 of the original scheme.
