APPENDIX XXI.

OFFICIAL VISIT TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

I hope the following answers your question concerning the money spent in connection with the Taoiseach’s proposed visit to the United States.

Owing to the gravity of the international situation, the Taoiseach’s visit was deferred. It was arranged that the Tánaiste should go instead, but the itinerary was considerably reduced. He was accompanied by Mr. J. J. Hearne, Legal Adviser to this Department and Miss O’Connell of the Taoiseach’s Department. The party was absent from the 6th May to the 14th June, 1939.

The expenses of the two officials who were sent out to the United States a short time in advance of the date fixed for the Taoiseach’s departure were also included under Subhead A.9. They were absent from the 7th April to the 18th May, 1939.
