Vote 7.—Old Age Pensions.—The principal excess arises on subhead A.—Pensions, and is due to the exceptionally large number of pension orders presented for payment on the last day of the financial year and to the abnormal number of outstanding appeals disposed of during the year, giving rise, in respect of successful appellants, to payment of increased current pensions together with arrears.

Vote 55.—Forestry.—The excess arises mainly on subhead C.2. —Cultural operations, Maintenance, etc., and is due to the increased cost of materials and the increased cost of labour.

The Committee sees no objection to the sums as set out above being provided by excess votes.
