NUMBER OF FARMERS WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE SCHEME FOR GROWING ADDITIONAL BEET IN THE COOLEY DISTRICT.

At yesterday’s meeting of the Committee of Public Accounts, Deputy Smith asked me the number of farmers who participated in the 243½ additional acres of sugar beet grown in the Cooley district of County Louth in respect of which this Department made a payment of £609 8s. 5d. to the Irish Sugar Company from Sub-head M.7 of the Vote for Agriculture, 1933-34, and I promised to furnish this information later. I have now ascertained that 164 farmers participated. I shall, therefore, be glad if you will kindly convey this information to Deputy Smith and the Committee.
