PROCEEDINGS OF THE SELECT COMMITTEE.

Déardaoin, 25adh Iúl, 1935.

Thursday, 25th July, 1935.

1. The Committee met at 5.30 p.m.


2. Present: Deputy Norton (in the Chair), Deputies Coburn, Costello, Dowdall, Fitzgerald, Fitzgerald-Kenney, Geoghegan, Good, Moore, Trayor and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance.


3. Mr. J. J. McElligott further examined.


4. The Committee adjourned at 7.30 p.m. till 8.30 p.m.


5. Motion made (Deputy Geoghegan):


“That the Select Committee sit to-morrow (Friday), and Monday to Friday, inclusive, of next week and of each succeeding week until the taking of the Evidence is completed.”


Amendment proposed (Deputy Fitzgerald):


“To delete all the words after the word ‘That’ and substitute the following:—


‘the Select Committee adjourn to the date of the resumption of the sittings of the Dáil after the Summer Recess’.”


Question put, and negatived.


Amendment proposed (Deputy Costello).


“To delete all the words after the word ‘That’ and substitute the following:—


‘the Select Committee adjourn to the 30th September next’.”


Question put, and negatived.


Amendment proposed (Chairman).


“To delete all the words after the word ‘that’ and substitute the following:—


‘the Select Committee adjourn to Tuesday, 3rd September next’.”


Amendment proposed to the proposed amendment (Deputy Moore):


“Before the word ‘adjourn’ to insert the words ‘sit to-morrow and Saturday and then’.”


Question put, and agreed to.


Amendment, as amended, agreed to.

Ordered: That the Select Committee sit to-morrow and Saturday and then adjourn to Tuesday, 3rd September next.


6. Motion made (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance):


“That 10 a.m. be the hour of sitting to-morrow.”


Question put, and agreed to.


7. Motion made (Deputy Geoghegan):


“That the quorum be altered to four.”


And, it appearing that seven members were not present, the Chairman directed the roll to be called, whereupon the roll was called by the Clerk and the following members answered their names:—Deputy Norton (Chairman), Deputies Dowdall, Geoghegan, Moore, Traynor and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance. A quorum not being present, the Chairman adjourned the Committee till to-morrow at 10 a.m.
