IMEACHTA AN CHÓ-CHOISTE.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE.

Déardaoin, 23 Bealtaine, 1935.

Thursday, 23 May, 1935.

1. The Joint Committee met at 2 p.m.


2. Present: Senator Fitzgerald (in the Chair); Deputies Miss M. M. Pearse and T. J. Murphy; and Senator Sir E. Coey Bigger. The Ceann Comhairle was also present ex officio.


3. A letter was read from Messrs. J. E. Mills, Ltd., stating their willingness to sign the Draft Agreement, but asking for the insertion of further clauses dealing with (i) Electricity and Gas and (ii) notice of termination of the contract.


4. It was proposed by Senator Sir E. Coey Bigger:


“That a clause be inserted giving either party the right to terminate the agreement on giving two months’ notice.”


This was agreed.


5. It was proposed by Senator Sir E. Coey Bigger:


“That a clause be inserted to the effect that, in the event of duly certified accounts for the period of the agreement showing a loss greater than half the cost of the electricity and gas used in cooking, a recoupment be made to Messrs. J. E. Mills, Ltd., of half the cost of such electricity and gas, provided that such recoupment does not exceed a sum calculated at the rate of £150 per annum.”


This Question was put and the Joint Committee divided.


For—The Chairman, the Ceann Comhairle, Deputy Miss M. M. Pearse and Senator Sir E. Coey Bigger—4.


Against—Deputy T. J. Murphy —1.


The Question was declared carried.


It was proposed by Deputy Miss M. M. Pearse:


“That this Joint Committee recommend in its Report that a meeting of the Advisory Joint Restaurant Committee be held four times annually.”


Agreed.


7. Mr. G. V. Lovell attended on invitation and was informed of the decisions recorded in paragraphs 4 and 5 of these Minutes. He confirmed the acceptance by his Firm of the proposals in their new form.


8. The Chairman’s Draft Report was brought forward and read.


It was proposed by Senator Sir E. Coey Bigger:


“That the Chairman’s Draft Report be the Report of the Joint Committee.”


This Question was put and the Joint Committee divided.


For—The Chairman, the Ceann Comhairle, Deputy Miss M. M. Pearse and Senator Sir E. Coey Bigger—4.


Against—Deputy T. J. Murphy—1.


The Question was declared carried.


It was Ordered to report accordingly.
