Committee Reports::Report - Accounts 1932 and first quarter of 1933::21 February, 1934::Report

REPORT.

Owing to the unsatisfactory results and increasing difficulties experienced in running the Oireachtas Restaurant officially a decision was taken to transfer the business to an outside firm of caterers. Proposals from a number of catering establishments of good standing were considered, and, in due course, an agreement was made with Messrs. J. E. Mills, Ltd., of Merrion Row, Dublin, to rent the catering rights to them for one year from the 1st April, 1933.

Accounts are attached hereto which show the income and expenditure of the Restaurant for the year 1932 and the first quarter of the year 1933. The final balance sheet, dated 30th June, 1933, also attached, shows a sum on hands of £430 13s., a purely trading balance. There was, however, on that date, owed to the Minister for Finance, a balance of £350 in respect of loans made from time to time in earlier years to cover trading losses. In addition to this sum there was a substantial capital liability to the Minister in respect of expenditure on equipment, maintenance and working charges. The Joint Committee has, accordingly, agreed to the proposal of the Minister that all the earnings of the Restaurant be transferred to him until these claims are satisfied.
