PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE.

1. The Committee met at 11.30 a.m.


2. Present: Senators S. L. Brown, K.C. (in the Chair), Sir Edward Coey Bigger, Michael Duffy, P.J. Hooper, Colonel Moore, M. F. O’Hanlon and Mrs. Wyse-Power.


3. The Committee resumed consideration of the Bill.


(i) Schedule agreed to.


(ii) Section 1.


Amendment proposed (Senator Colonel Moore):


Sub-section (3). Before sub-section (3) to insert a new sub-section as follows:—


“3 (a) Nothing in this Act shall operate to legitimate a person unless the father of such person shall make a declaration in the prescribed form that such person is or was a child of his body.


(b) The form of such declaration shall be prescribed by regulation of the Registrar-General of Births and Deaths in Ireland and shall be filled in accordance with such regulations.”


Amendment, by leave, amended by the deletion of the word “make” and the substitution therefor of the words “on or before the date of the marriage file.”
