IMEACHTA AN CHO-CHOISTE.

PROCEEDINGS OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE.

1. Chruinnigh an Có-Choiste ar 11 a.m.

2. I láthair: Pádraig Hooper (i gCeannas); Tomás O hAonghusa, Seán Lemass, Diarmuid O Mathghamhna, Pádraig Mac Gabhann, Liam Thrift agus Mícheál O Tighearnaigh, Teachtaí; Eibhlín Bean Mhic Coisdealbha, Tomás Mac Eoin, Mac Giolla Coda na gCruach, Seán O Maolruaidhe, Muiris O Mórdha agus Mícheál O hAnnluain, Seanadóirí.

3. Saoraidi Puist.

Do tháinig P. S. O hEigceartuigh, Rúnaí na Roinne Puist agus Telegrafa, i láthair ar n-a iarraidh don Chó-Choiste go dtabharfadh sé eolas dóibh ar nithe a bhaineann le saoráidí puist.

4. Liuntaisi do Bhaill den dail agus den tSeanad.

D’ath-chromadh ar bhreithniú na tairisginte seo leanas a dhin Tomás Mac Eoin ar an 26adh Meitheamh:

“That the present scale of allowance for members of the Oireachtas does not admit of reduction.”

Leasú tairgthe (Seán Lemass):

“To delete all the words after the word ‘That’ and substitute the following:—

“‘the Committee is of opinion that the duties attaching to membership of the Seanad do not necessitate the payment of an allowance equal to that paid to members of the Dáil; and also that the existing economic circumstances of the State do not permit of any increase in the allowance paid to members of the Dáil, and recommends, therefore, that the allowance paid to members of the Seanad be reduced to £200 per annum.”’

Do faisnéiseadh dá réir sin go rabhthas tar éis diúltú don leasú.

Tairisgint leasuithe, fé chead, tré sna focail “does not admit of reduction” do scrios amach agus tré sna focail “is not excessive and ought not to be reduced” do chur isteach ina n-ionad.

“That the Committee does not feel justified in recommending any reduction in the present scale of allowances paid to members of the Oireachtas.”
