In 2006 the Joint Committee met on 5 occasions to discuss matters related to Pensions. Of particular relevance were the following meetings;
As part of the Joint Committee’s consideration a number of detailed questions were asked of the Pensions Board regarding the number of members with frozen benefits of the largest 55 occupational pension schemes. Meeting of the Joint Committee 3rd April 2007The Joint Committee’s ongoing consideration of Pension related issues was discussed and a copy of correspondence received from the Pensions Board dated 30 March 2007 was circulated to members. It was noted that the correspondence contained a response to the Joint Committee’s queries regarding the number of members with frozen benefits of the largest 55 occupational pension schemes. The Joint Committee expressed concern that its consideration of the Pensions issue could not be progressed given current time constraints. The Joint Committee agreed that a report should be laid before both Houses recommending to the Joint Committee on Social and Family Affairs of the 30th Dail that consideration of the pensions issue be made a priority by that committee. Decision of the Joint CommitteeThe Joint Committee agreed that a report should be laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas to recommend as follows; • that the Joint Committee on Social and Family Affairs of the 30th Dail continue a consideration of pensions issues as a priority, • that a copy of this report be made available to that Committee, and that • the secretariat should provide an appropriate file of papers to that Committee to assist it in its work on the matter, to include the correspondence dated 30 March 2007 received from the Pensions Board. ____________________ William Penrose, T.D.
