Appendix 4 International Carding System

The Carding Scheme provides non-financial supports, ranging from sports specialist advice on physiology, nutrition etc., to medical support. These services are provided free of charge, for specific levels of usage. The level of services available to carded players and athletes in 2005 are outlined below:

Access to sports science and sports medical support is available through the Sports Science and Medical Support Network, which is co-ordinated by the NCTC. Access to additional medical and physiotherapy entitlements operate on a referral basis (through the NCTC medical officer), based on agreed standard rates of fees and an overall monetary limit.


The carding system commits funding for two years to athletes. There is an annual application process in order to remain on the scheme. Applications are submitted to the relevant NGB, which following analysis and approval is submitted to the Sports Council of Ireland. The closing date for lodging applications with the SCI for 2005 was 14th January 2005.
