JOINT COMMITTEE ON SOCIAL AND FAMILY AFFAIRS

Position of Full-time Carers

The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Social and Family Affairs, chaired by Mr. Willie Penrose T.D., is a Parliamentary Committee consisting of members of Dáil Éireann and Seanad Éireann.

As part of its work programme for 2002/3, the Joint Committee intends to review the position of full-time carers. This will include an examination of current welfare policy and practices, statutory, professional and voluntary support structures, education and training opportunities for carers and the long-term effects of full-time caring on the physical and mental well-being of carers.

The Joint Committee has decided to invite written submissions from members of the public, professional and voluntary organisations and other interested parties who may be interested in conveying their views and experiences on this matter. The Joint Committee may subsequently decide to invite selected correspondents to address a meeting of the Committee with a view to a discussion on their written submissions.

Submissions should be sent to the following address to arrive not later than Friday, 30th May 2003:
