1. The Committee met at 3.07 p.m.

2.Members Present.

The following members were present:-

Deputies: Michael P. Kitt (in the Chair), Micheál Martin (Minister for Education and Science), Willie O’Dea (Minister of State at the Department of Education and Science), Richard Bruton, Pat Carey, Mary Hanafin, Brian Hayes, Cecilia Keaveney, John Moloney, Brian O’Shea and Eddie Wade.

3. Estimates for Public Services.

The Select Committee considered Estimates for Public Services for the year ending 31st December, 1998, in respect of:-

Vote 26 (Office of the Minister for Education and Science) (Supplementary Estimate)

Vote 27 (First-Level Education) (Supplementary Estimate)

Vote 28 (Second-Level and Further Education) (Supplementary Estimate)

Vote 29 (Third-Level and Further Education) (Supplementary Estimate)

4. Message from Committee.

In accordance with Standing Order 79B the following message was sent to the Clerk of the Dáil:-
