- details regarding the salaries of the Minister’s Programme Manager, Special Advisor and Administrative Assistant, and

- details of courses in the Irish language suitable for adults.

The Committee would be grateful for the information by Friday 10 February 1995.

I refer to my evidence before the Public Accounts Committee on 19 January and to your letters of 30 January and 1 February.

In replying to questions from Deputy B. O’Keeffe I said that my Minister had a Programme Manager, a Special Advisor and a Personal Assistant. I forgot to mention that he also appointed a Personal Secretary in August 1993 and the total salary costs involved in 1993 were as follows:-

In answer to a question from the Chairman about the rediscovered Caravaggio masterpiece I mentioned (see page 16) that we might “be funding maybe a professorship in art studies”. I should, however, have used the word “scholarship” instead of “professorship”.

Courses in Irish for adults are conducted in the Gaeltacht by the organisations detailed on the attached list.

The amended transcript of my evidence to the Committee is returned herewith duly certified.
