Principal Uses of Alginates

Textiles

For thickening the dye solutions applied to cloth for printing dress materials, curtains, etc.

Food Industry

A permitted food additive, to improve texture and stabilise properties of ice cream, ice lollies, cakes, meat pies, salad dressings, soft drinks, beer, dog food, cheese, jellies, synthetic cream, tomato source, powdered soups, etc.

Pharmaceutical (Dental)

The most important ingredient of the impression material used every day by dentists.

Paper

In surface coatings to improve printing properties.

Photographic

Films, paper, hardener, developer, etc.

Alginate Fibres

Medical dressings and hosiery manufacturer.

General

There is a wide variety of other uses which include:

 

lens grinding, penicillin, barrier creams, carpet backing, water colour paints, welding electrodes, toothpaste, television magnets, motor tyres, ceramics, etc.
