Ireland maintains resident diplomatic relations with 30 States. Non-resident diplomatic relations are maintained with a further 36 States. Details are as follows:—

1. Ireland also maintains resident Missions to the European Communities in Brussels and to the United Nations in New York and Geneva.


2. The Government earlier this year approved the establishment of diplomatic relations with the following countries:—

In the case of Malta, Pakistan and Ghana agrément has not been received.


In the case of Romania agrément has been received but the Ambassador-designate has not presented credentials.


3. In the case of Tanzania (with accreditation formerely from Nairobi) agrément has been received from Tanzania to the accreditation to Tanzania of the Ambassador to Cairo but he has not presented his credentials.


4. In the case of Kenya agreement has not been received to the accreditation to Kenya of the Ambassador at Cairo in replacement of the formerly resident diplomatic representation in Kenya.


5. It had been agreed that the Ambassador at Warsaw would be accredited also to Czechoslovakia and Hungary and that the Ambassador at Berne would be accredited also to Yugoslavia but action has not been taken on these changes.
