Letter from the Clerk to the Committee to the Secretary, Department of Finance.

Mr. Brian Murphy, Chief Executive, Diners Club (Ireland) at yesterday’s Committee meeting outlined a proposal for the introduction of a credit card system in the public sector.

I enclose a copy of Mr. Murphy’s submission for your attention.

The Committee decided that the proposal should be referred to the Minister for Finance in the first instance for an assessment of the feasibility, including estimated cost/benefits to the Exchequer, of such a system. It would be appreciated if your Department’s comments could be provided at an early date.
