Committee Reports::Report - Review of Exchequer Costs of Travel and Subsistence::04 March, 1985::Appendix

APPENDIX VII

Letter to Clerk to the Committee from Irish Travel Agents Association

Ref: Lep Travel

I acknowledge receipt of your correspondence on the above Company’s submission to your Committee.

Due to the confidential nature of the subject, I have not passed it to any of my members for their views, and the observations I make are my own, and given in my capacity as Chief Executive.

The services provided by Lep Travel can also be provided by other Travel Agents, but no Agent can match the 10% discount offered by Aer Lingus. As Agents presently receive a Commission of 9%, there is no way they can give their clients a discount of 10%.

The observations of both Departments indicate that Aer Lingus provide a service comparable with Travel Agents, with the added incentive of a 10% reduction. If the proposed Transport Bill outlaws such reductions, it might be beneficial to invite tenders for this Account.

Yours sincerely,

T.J. Lonergan,

Chief Executive.
