PROCEEDINGS OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE

1. The Joint Committee met at 4 p.m.

2. Members Present.

The following Members were present:

Deputies Manning (in the Chair), Sylvester Barrett, Brennan, Coughlan, Durkan, Flanagan, Ormonde and Walsh; Senators Lanigan, McDonald, Robinson and Smith. Apologies for inability to attend were received from Deputies Collins, Daly, Moloney and Ryan, and from Senators Hourigan and Ross.

3. Draft Report on Community Aid for Solid Fuel Production.

Deputy Barrett brought forward a Draft Report which was read as follows:—

(i) Paragraphs 1 to 20, inclusive, agreed to.

(ii) Paragraph 21.

Amendment proposed (Senator Lanigan):

“To add to paragraph 21 the following sub-paragraph:

‘In relation to the lignite deposits in Northern Ireland, the Joint Committee feels that the development of these resources in conjunction with the coal reserves in the Connaught Coalfield could be mutually beneficial and hopes that this suggestion will be carefully considered by those concerned.’.”

Amendment agreed to.

Paragraph, as amended, agreed to.

(iii) Paragraph 22 agreed to.

Draft Report, as amended, agreed to.

Ordered. To report accordingly.

4. Adjournment.

The Joint Committee adjourned at 4.15 p.m.
