MINUTE TO CLERK TO JOINT COMMITTEE FROM DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATIONS

During my appearance before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Commercial State-sponsored Bodies on Wednesday, 25 July, 1984, members of the Committee requested particulars of Irish Shipping Ltd’s five year corporate plan and I undertook to furnish the Committee with a note in the matter.

The position is that details of the Company’s plans and future prospects are contained in a detailed report furnished to the Minister in February, 1984 following the renegotiation of the charter hire contracts. The report was supplemented by five year financial projections furnished by the Company in May, 1984.

The report and financial projections were supplied on a confidential basis and, in any event, the Minister considers that, for reasons of commercial confidentiality, it would not be appropriate to disclose their contents to the Joint Committee.
