1. The Joint Committee met at 2.30 p.m.

2. Members Present.

The following Members were present:

Senator FitzGerald (in the Chair), Deputies D’Arcy, Leonard, Noonan, Quinn and Smith; Senators Harney and Molony.

3. Draft Report on Agricultural Prices and Measures to Balance the Markets and Streamline Expenditure.

Deputy Smith brought forward a Draft Report which was read as follows:—

(i) Paragraphs 1 to 21, inclusive, agreed to.

(ii) Paragraph 22.

Amendment proposed (Deputy Smith):

“In the fourth sentence, to delete ‘the cost’ and substitute ‘costs which would not have arisen in the absence’.”

Amendment agreed to.

Paragraph, as amended, agreed to.

(iii) Paragraphs 23 to 29, inclusive, agreed to.

(iv) Paragraph 30.

Amendment proposed (Deputy Smith):

“In the first sentence to delete ‘accept that Community producers should not be penalised because of the costs of exports which correspond to ACP imports’ and substitute ‘take into account the fact that some of the cost falling on EAGG in respect of export refunds arises because of imports from third countries. Community producers must not have to bear the full burden of this cost’.”

Amendment agreed to.

Paragraph, as amended, agreed to.

(v) Paragraphs 31 to 36, inclusive, agreed to.

Draft Report, as amended, agreed to.
