APPENDIX 2

LETTER TO CLERK TO JOINT COMMITTEE FROM FÓIR TEORANTA

In our submission to the Committee there is one point which we omitted to mention and which, I think, is sufficiently important to bring to your attention.

When the original Fóir Teoranta Bill was being debated in the Dáil and Seanad, the then Minister for Finance said that it was intended to arrange administratively that Fóir should not provide financial assistance to any individual concern in excess of a certain figure without the consent of the Ministers for Finance and Industry and Commerce. The figure ultimately decided upon was £250,000. (See Seanad Debates of 21st December, 1971, Column 1847). This administrative arrangement is still in existence and is, of course, adhered to by Fóir.

Yours sincerely,

KEVIN McGUINNESS
