APPENDIX 7

LETTER TO CLERK TO JOINT COMMITTEE FROM NATIONAL BUILDING AGENCY LIMITED CONCERNING HOUSING AT TOGHER, GLEN & MAYFIELD IN CORK

I refer to the second query raised in the appendix attached to your letter of the 13th June 1980 in connection with the housing at Togher, Glen and Mayfield in Cork.

In my memorandum of the 25th March 1980 I dealt with the specific questions about dampness and mould growth in some of the dwellings in these schemes and the remedial action recommended by the British Research Establishment. When the remedial works—the cost of which was borne by the contractors and the Agency—were completed, the schemes were taken in charge by the Corporation and the Agency had no further involvement. Consequently, I am not in a position to comment on the matters raised by the Corporation in its letter of the 4th February 1980 to the Committee. However, it is noted that, as in the case of the Agency’s memorandum, the Corporation makes reference to the effects of the cost of heating on the schemes.

Yours faithfully
