APPENDIX 3

LETTER TO CLERK TO JOINT COMMITTEE FROM AER RIANTA TEORANTA CONCERNING STANDARD OF HANDLING SERVICES PROVIDED AT AIRPORTS

In course of the Hearing of your Committee the question of the standard of handling services provided for scheduled carriers was raised. Question 83 of minutes of evidence refers.

Aer Lingus, as agent for Aer Rianta, performs handling services for scheduled carriers at Shannon Airport but non-scheduled carriers (which includes transit carriers) are handled by Shannon Repair Services, which is now wholly owned by Aer Lingus. In practice, however, SRS subcontracts the function to Aer Lingus.

As advised in the course of the Hearing, Shannon Airport has been very dependent on transit operations and in the case of the larger carriers package deals were negotiated in the background of competition from other airports in Europe. This arrangement has the full support of both Aer Lingus and Shannon Repair Services.

Aer Rianta constantly monitors the handling services provided by Aer Lingus and we have no record of any complaints about the standard of handling provided, either to scheduled or non-scheduled carriers.

Yours sincerely,

JAMES O’SULLIVAN,

Chief Executive.
