1. The Joint Committee met at 3.30 p.m.

2. Members Present.

The following members were present.

Deputies Clinton (in the Chair), Daly, De Valera, Kenny, Leonard, McCreevy, Noonan, O’Keeffe, Quinn and Smith; Senators FitzGerald, Harney, Hussey, Robinson and Eoin Ryan.

6. Draft Report on Draft Council Directive concerning the Approximation of the Legislation of Member States in Order to Combat Illegal Migration and Illegal Employment.

Senator Robinson brought forward a Draft Report which was read as follows:—

(i) Paragraphs 1 to 6 inclusive, agreed to

(ii) Paragraph 7.

Amendment proposed (Senator FitzGerald):

“In line 12, after ‘nationals’ to add ‘by the European Communities (Aliens) Regulations, 1977 [S. I. No. 393 of 1977]’.”

Amendment agreed to.

Paragraph, as amended, agreed to.

(iii) Paragraphs 8 and 9 agreed to.

Draft Report, as amended, agreed to.

Ordered: To report accordingly.
