PROCEEDINGS OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE

1. The Joint Committee met at 4.30 p.m.

2. Members Present.

The following Members were present:

Deputies Clinton (in the Chair), Daly, Síle de Valera, Griffin, Leonard, McCreevy, O’Keeffe and Woods, Senators FitzGerald, Harney, Hussey, Hyland, Robinson and Eoin Ryan.

Deputy Power and Senator Brugha, Members of the European Parliament, were also in attendance.

4. Draft Report on Proposed Directive on Mergers and Proposed Regulation on the control of Concentrations between Undertakings.

The Chairman brought forward a Draft Report which was read as follows:—

On the proposal of Senator Robinson, it was unanimously agreed to postpone consideration of the part of the Draft Report dealing with the proposed Regulation on the control of concentrations between undertakings to the next meeting of the Joint Committee to permit amendments thereto to be tabled.

(i) Paragraph 1.

Amendment proposed (Senator FitzGerald):

“To delete ‘two proposals’ in the first line and substitute ‘the proposal’, to delete ‘These are’ in the third line and substitute ‘viz’ and to delete all words after ‘ “Mergers Directive”]’ to the end of the paragraph.”

Amendment agreed to.

Paragraph, as amended, agreed to.

(ii) Paragraphs 2 to 10, inclusive, agreed to.

(iii) Paragraphs 11 to 17 inclusive, deleted.

Draft Report, as amended, agreed to.

Ordered: To report accordingly.
