Secretary,

Public Accounts Committee,

Leinster House,

Dublin 2

At the P.A.C. meeting on 23 February, 1978, I undertook to send the Committee a note about the provision for consulting fees in Subhead A of the Local Government Vote for 1975. The provision of £50,000 was made up as follows:—

1. £7,000 for consultants engaged to advise on planning appeals,

2. £33,000 for fees to experts engaged by the Department in a study on computerisation in the local authority area,

3. £5,000 for a proposed study by the E.S.R.I. into the incidence of rates, and

4. £5,000 for pollution studies.

The provision of £7,000 in 1974 related solely to fees for consultants engaged on planning appeals.
