1. The Committee met at 11 a.m.

2. Members Present

The following members were present:—

Deputies de Valera, H. Gibbons, Governed, Griffin, MacSharry, C. Murphy, Toal any Tunney.

3. Election of Chairman

Motion made (Deputy Governey):

“That Deputy de Valera be Chairman of the Committee.”

Question put and agreed to.

Deputy de Valera took the Chair accordingly.

4. Ordered: That the sittings of the Committee be held in private.

5. The Committee deliberated.

6. Consideration of Appropriation Accounts 1975

Consideration of Appropriation Accounts for the period 1 January 1975 to 31 December 1975 was begun. The following Accounts were disposed of: Office of the Minister for the Public Service, Civil Service Commission, Superannuation and Retired Allowances (Excess Vote), Superannuation and Retired Allowances, Remuneration, Defence, Army Pensions.

7. Witnesses Examined

Mr. S. Ó Conaill (Secretary, Department of the Public Service), Mr. M. P. Healy (Secretary, Department of Defence) and the Comptroller and Auditor General were examined.

8. Interim Report of Committee

The Chairman brought forward a Draft Interim Report for consideration.

Draft Interim Report agreed to.

Ordered: To report to the Dáil accordingly.

9. Adjournment

The Committee adjourned at 12.50 p.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday next.
