PROCEEDINGS OF THE JOINT COMMITTEE

1. The Joint Committee met at 4.30 p.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:


Deputies Haughey (in the Chair), Esmonde, McDonald and Nolan; Senators Higgins, Lenihan, Robinson and Yeats. Apologies for inability to attend were received from Deputy Dockrell and from Senator FitzGerald.


3. Draft Report on Proposed Council Decision concluding the European Convention on the Protection of Farm Animals and Proposed Council Directive concerning Surveys of Pig Production to be made by Member States.


The Chairman brought forward a Draft Report which was read as follows:—


(i) Paragraph 1.


Amendment proposed (Senator Robinson):


“To delete the final sentence and substitute the following:—


‘The Joint Committee understands that action by the Council on these proposals is likely in the near future’”.


Amendment agreed to.


Paragraph, as amended, agreed to.


(ii) Paragraphs 2 to 6, inclusive, agreed to.


Draft Report, as amended, agreed to.


Ordered: To report accordingly.
