APPENDIX I

COMPARISON OF IRISH LAW WITH THE EEC LAW (ACTUAL AND PROPOSED)

Maximum period of continuous driving

5½ hours

Minimum weekly rest period.

24 hours

24 hours to be immediately preceded or followed by a daily rest period or during the period April-September inclusive 60 consecutive hours preceded or followed by a daily rest period before the expiration of any period of fourteen consecutive days.

29 hours to be immediately preceded or followed by a daily rest.

(1) A combination with more than one trailer or semi-trailer.

In addition R/642/76 (Trans 27) proposes the following:

(2) A combination used for the carriage of passengers where the permissible maximum weight of the trailer or semi-trailer exceeds 5 metric tons.

Spread over (i.e. total time between two daily rests) not to exceed 12 hours. Not more than6 spreadovers per week or 10 per two weeks.

(3) A combination used for the carriage of goods the maximum permissible weight of which exceeds 20 metric tons.

Annual Leave: Total leave, including public holidays, to be at least 28 working days.
