The following members were present: Deputies Haughey (in the Chair), Desmond, Dockrell, Esmonde, Gibbons, Herbert and Nolan; Senators Boland, Robinson and Ryan. Apologies for inability to attend were received from Deputies Dunne and Thornley. 3. Draft Report on the European Community’s Generalised Tariff Preferences Scheme for 1976. The Chairman brought forward a Draft Report which was read as follows:— (i) Paragraphs 1 to 6, inclusive, agreed to. (ii) Paragraph 7. Amendment proposed (Deputy Esmonde): “To insert the following sentence at the end of the paragraph:— ‘The Joint Committee supports the views expressed by the Confederation of Irish Industry and hopes that when consideration is being given to the 1977 Scheme, the Department of Industry and Commerce will pay particular attention to the problems facing the textile and footwear sectors.’” Amendment agreed to.
