APPENDIX 12.

UNIVERSITY/INDUSTRY CO-OPERATION IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY—RECRUITMENT OF LIAISON OFFICERS

An Cléireach

An Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí

At the proceedings of the Committee on 30th May 1974, I was asked if establishments such as Kevin Street College of Technology were consulted about the recruitment of liaison officers for the promotion of university/ industry co-operation in science and technology.

There have not been direct consultations between the National Science Council and Kevin Street College of Technology regarding the appointment of liaison officers for the reason that the scheme in its initial pilot stage was confined to two university colleges. As it happens, Bolton Street College of Technology did in fact write to the National Science Council regarding the appointment of an Industrial Liaison Officer for the College. This request was referred to the Dublin Vocational Education Committee as being the most appropriate body to sponsor such a proposal and further initiatives in connection with this approach were left with the Committee.

The initial trial period for this scheme will shortly come to an end, at which time the scheme will be reviewed with particular reference to the involvement of a wider range of third level institutions such as Kevin Street College of Technology.
