PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE

1. The Committee met at 7.30 p.m.


2. Members Present.


The following members were present:—


Deputy Patrick Hogan (in the Chair), Deputies Barrett, R. Burke, E. Collins, Dowling, FitzGerald, MacSharry and Tunney.


3. Mr. E. F. Suttle (Comptroller and Auditor General) was in attendance in an advisory capacity.


4. The Committee noted two letters* of 25 November 1971 from the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries in relation to (i) the summons to him to attend today’s meeting and (ii) the note handed in by him during his evidence on 22 April 1971.


5. The Committee went into public session.


6. Colonel Michael J. Hefferon being in attendance for the purpose of cross-examining the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, and the Minister not being in attendance, Colonel Hefferon was, on request by him, granted permission to address the Committee.


7. Colonel Hefferon addressed the Committee.


8. Mr. T. Smyth, B.L. and Mr. M. E. Marren, solicitor, were in attendance as advisors to the Committee during Colonel Hefferon’s address.


9. Colonel Hefferon withdrew.


10. Adjournment.


The Committee adjourned at 9.20 p.m. until 5 p.m. tomorrow.
