The following members were present:— Deputy Patrick Hogan (in the Chair), Deputies Barrett, Briscoe, R. Burke, E. Collins, FitzGerald, H. Gibbons, Keating, MacSharry, Nolan, Treacy and Tunney. 3. Mr. E. F. Suttle (Comptroller and Auditor General) was in attendance in an advisory capacity, accompanied by Mr. S. Mac Gearailt. 4. The Chairman reported that he had had an interview with the Taoiseach as instructed, that the Taoiseach had stated that it would be a dangerous precedent to release the directive to the Committee as it was a document concerned with national security, that he was unable for this reason to grant the request and, that, in any event, he could not change the decision himself since it was a matter for the Government to decide. 5. Ordered: that the Chairman should write to the Taoiseach asking him to put the matter before the Government.* 6. The Committee went into public session. 7. Witnesses Examined. Examination of Captain Kelly was resumed. 8. Sitting Suspended. The sitting was suspended at 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. today. 9. The Committee met again at 4 p.m. 10. The Committee deliberated. 11. The Committee met again at 7.30 p.m. 15. The Committee went into public session. 16. Witnesses Examined. Examination of Captain Kelly was resumed. 17. Captain Kelly withdrew. 18. The Committee went into private session. 19. Ordered: that Mr. Albert Luykx, Chief Superintendent John P. Fleming, Mr. Séamus Brady, Mr. Brendan O’Donnell, Mr. Gearóid Mac Eoin and Mr. Paraic Haughey be required to attend and to send documents. 20. Adjournment. The Committee adjourned at 9.15 p.m. until 11 a.m. tomorrow. |
