APPENDIX 39.

FARM APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME

The number of participants in the Scheme at present is as follows:—

1st Year	...	36
2nd Year	...	32
3rd Year	...	25
4th Year	...	9
Total		102

It is expected that a good proportion of this total will return to their home farms. A total of 37 participants have been qualified to date and of these 9 are managing their own farms, 27 are managers or assistant managers of farms other than their own but within the country and 1 is employed by a farm organisation.

While the Apprenticeship Board does not guarantee to find employment for those who complete the course, it has arranged employment for about 60% so far, and in fact has received more inquiries than there are qualified personnel available.

The Board has had some discussions with the Land Commission about farms for apprentices and while there is nothing definite to date there appears to be a possibility of development in the future. The Board has not approached the Agricultural Credit Corporation as this is regarded as primarily a matter for the individuals concerned.
