APPENDIX 21.TV/WIRELESS LICENCE CAMPAIGN 1967An Cléireach, An Coiste um Chuntais Phoiblí. At the proceedings of the Committee on 20th February, I undertook to supply information in regard to the effect on revenue of the TV/Wireless licence campaign in October/November, 1967. During the period of the campaign 52,000 new television licences and 12,000 new radio licences were purchased. It is estimated that some 10 per cent of the purchases made in these two months was due to normal growth and that the remaining 90 per cent was due to the campaign and the special house-to-house inspections undertaken by Post Office personnel. Over the whole financial year 1967-68 the total amount collected in licence fees was £2,199,000, an increase of £302,000 or 15.9 per cent over the preceding year. Approximately four fifths of this increase was attributable to the campaign. No precise figure is available as to the number of television sets in the country. At 31st March, 1969 the number of current licences was 394,349 which, with some 29,700 recently expired, brings to approximately 424,000 the number of television licences that are current or due for renewal.
