I am directed by the Select Committee on Statutory Instruments to refer to the Trade Marks Rules, 1963 (Amendment) Rules, 1968 which were made on 8th March, 1968 and laid before Seanad Éireann on 21st March, 1968.

The Committee has to consider whether there has been unjustifiable delay in laying this instrument before Seanad Éireann and it would therefore welcome an explanation of the delay. In this connection I am to direct your attention to paragraph 13 of the First Report (T.152-Pr. 3001) of the Select Committee on Statutory Instruments dated 5th May, 1958.

I am directed by the Minister for Industry and Commerce to refer to your minute of 25 October, 1968, regarding the Trade Marks Rules, 1963 (Amendment) Rules, 1968.

The delay in laying this instrument before Seanad Éireann was caused by an oversight due to staff changes. The delay is regretted.
